While the album is rooted in compas — Haitian music that evolved from méringue into a slower, more laid-back form — the title track, “Cherche La Vie,” turns into something altogether more explosive. With its thick, full-bodied instrumentation and powerful backing vocals, it lands as a seriously heavy piece of funk.
The intro alone is irresistible: flashes of guitar, a beat that keeps pressing forward, and horns gradually closing in. It’s hard to imagine any funk or boogie lover not getting excited by this one.
