You Won't Catch Me Cryin'"
US singer Debbie McKayle left behind only a handful of releases, but this album is packed with killer tracks from start to finish.
“You Won’t Catch Me Cryin’” could almost be described as proto-house, with its cheap-sounding keyboards, tightly worked mid-tempo hi-hats, and McKayle’s sultry vocal performance shining over the top.
“Debbie’s Adventure” is another proto-house cut, driven by an offbeat pulse that almost recalls reggae, while “Necesito Tu Amor” heads into rawer territory — a streetwise slice of acid house.
And then there’s “Want Ads,” unexpectedly reworking the Honey Cone classic into melancholic street soul. An absolute beauty.
